Pregnancy Training

When you find out your pregnant you have a variety of reactions, it may not be the first thing on your mind, but you will eventually start thinking about what you can and should do during your pregnancy.

I have 5 years experience of training women preparing for pregnancy, throughout their pregnancy and Post natal. I had my first child in Sept '08.

Anxiety tends to be the first reaction regarding training. There is so much information available and its knowing what to listen to. I feel it is vitally important to provide you with the facts. I always offer a free hour consultation to anyone finding out they are pregnant as I feel it is important for you to have the information available to you, for the safety of you and your child during the pregnancy. Ensuring you can help yourself as much as possible with the labour, birth and recovery.

First, I would like to stress the importance of knowing what is safe to do whilst pregnant. It is important that you do not take on anything new regarding your training without guidance. I am happy to offer you guidance but if you have done no exercise before I recommend you speaking to your doctor or midwife about any potential complications before attending your free consultation.

However, it is important to prepare your body for childbirth. Imagine you were going to take on a new challenge like running a marathon - unless you were completely mad - you wouldn't turn up on race day and expect to run a sub-3hour. Giving Birth should be seen the same way, it is the hardest physical challenge you will undertake in your life and you need to train for it if you want to improve your chance of a quicker labour with a faster recovery.

There is alot of pressure on women to get back into their pre-pregancy jeans the day they leave the hospital. Birth is very tramatic for the body and you should allow yourself as long as you need to recover however you have to wait 6 weeks before returning to exercise even if you feel ready before then. Once you and your baby have had the 6week postnatal check you may be keen to get your pre-pregnancy figure back and you may have a little more energy to think about it. At this point, I offer postnatal Personal Training.
