I first met Maz in 2006 when she worked at another gym. To say I was new to exercise was an understatement, up until that point in my life I had managed to avoid all exercise – apart from being forced to play hockey and netball shamefully badly at school – but I had, a few months before, decided enough was enough and it was time to get fit and lose the weight!.
So I had been plodding around the gym on my own not really knowing what I was doing and over a few months I had lost a couple of pounds but wasn’t really getting anywhere. Maz had obviously clocked this, and approached me with the opening line “ Are you spending ages in the gym and not getting the results you had hoped for?” – I was quite taken aback, but then I had to confess that actually, yes, that’s exactly what was doing.
So, Maz offered a no obligation PT session and it was from that point on that my life changed. Suffice to say, within 2 months of training with Maz I had gone from a lifelong size 14 /16 to a size 12 and was comfortably running 5ks. Me, running 5k’s? - this is the girl who had never so much as run for a bus. And it was all down to Maz. The overriding aspect about Maz’s training sessions is laughter – which outweighs the pain – but that’s why I chose to train with her. She makes me laugh more than anyone I know, and has managed to turn exercise into something fun – with great results. Which for a gym-o-phobe like me is no small feat.
I did make the fatal error in 2008 of moving house and stopping training with Maz for logistical reasons, and over the course of a year I had gained nearly a stone and my self confidence was back to rock bottom. However, in Feb this year, I joined Mazfit and I have so far lost 6 pounds and signed up for a 10k. Mazfit suits me perfectly because I am the kind of person who finds exercise pretty dull and I am hopeless at motivating myself. Mazfit is all classes and personal training, so I always exercise in groups, which is much more fun and also the peer pressure keeps me going!!
