Okay, okay I never said it was gonna be easy but lets face it, it is 13.1miles, but it is possible. Whatever Half marathon you plan to do, make sure you have enough time to train sensibly. Build up gradually and make sure you run regularly so you are less likely to get injuries.
Before you do anything you need to know where your fitness is at now. So I have 2 tasks for you...
I want you to;
1/ Ensure you have read the 'Pre-Activity Quesionnaire', you have the relevant kit, good trainers (not the same pair you have owned for 10yrs), sportsbra (get measured if your not sure) and make sure you stay hydrated.
2/ Then, complete 3 miles at the quickest pace you can. I appreciate that if you are a complete beginner you will walk alot of it, but it doesn't matter what time it takes you. Its an initial measure and you have to start somewhere. If you feel 3miles is too much, then call me.
I use a website called www.walkjogrun.net to workout my distances. I always get my trainers from sweatshop and they will fit sportsbras too. (next to Reading Station). I love www.boobydoo.com - great for sportsbras in mad colours and styles.
Once you have done that you have a starting point. That is all we are trying to achieve now.
Right..... Now what?
Now we need to work on the 'R' word. Running!
Ideally, you will be running ALL the 3miles as soon as. :o) Interval training is great for improving your fitness and also burns loads of calories. I want you to work on a '1 ON, 2 OFF' principle. For example;
Run 1 min, walk 2mins OR Run from 1 lamp post to the next and then walk the next 2. But your '1 ON' should be really hard. Set your self a time, somewhere between 10mins and an hour and try and do this at least 2x a week.
Try and do your 3miles 1x a week.
